work progress

  • “Endless Nile table” was inspired from the slow and perpetual flow of the Nile River
  • combines with a futuristic deconstruction of conventional table and seating concepts
  • a wooden base with a reinforced steel structure
  • white Dupont Corian helps achieve fluidity and clarifies the table’s lines and structure

We inspired our sculpture from river and added in karim rashid's design characteristic "simpler, less cluttered, more sensual envelopment, curvy random shapes and lively colors".

Here are the work progress we did:

Model Making

While we start to do our sculpture, we face a lot of problems!
We expect our outcome will look like a plastic sculpture,
but it is difficult to bend a plastic and the most important is we don't where to find this kind of resources...

At first, we decide to use long shaped balloon but balloon is too fragile and not solid at all.

Then, we come out an idea, paper mache.
We blow the balloons and covered the balloons completely with the paper mache,
set then aside to dry.
After that, take a small pin and popped the balloons.

Although this is a good method but it doesn't give
us kind of plastic textures. (smooth, clean and shiny)

At the end,  we found plastic tube is the most suitable material.
It is flexible and durable, we insert wire inside on it to form the shape nicely.
Besides that, we also using clay, recycle paper, aluminum foil to construct our sculpture.

Here is the bottom view of our sculpture.

Final Outcome....we named it"Endless Splendid"!
